In the series titled "The Holy Virgins of the Greeks," there is a brief yet responsible presentation of the history of the most well-known and beloved icons of the Most Holy Theotokos among the Greeks.
The love and honor given to these icons become evident when they are displayed for veneration in the capital or other cities of Greece. It is then that one realizes the piety even of those considered secular, who "stand" in enormous "lines" in order to kiss the sacred icon, to place a flower before the Theotokos, to light their candle, and, above all, to confide "from the depths of their hearts" their problems, supplications, or to express their "thank you" and gratitude for some miraculous intervention in their lives.
Because they know that the "Mistress of the World" is the "hope and protection of the faithful," she does not overlook their requests and intercedes for "the good and beneficial for their souls," allowing none to leave her presence "ashamed."
