An incredible story, and so well told

“Honesty, integrity, and a genuine experience that puts you right in the middle of the action.” - Billy Billingham

There were three patrols that fateful morning in January 1991: Bravo One Zero, Bravo Two Zero, and Bravo Three Zero. It was the early hours of the Gulf War, and the SAS were deployed deep behind enemy lines to hunt Saddam's Scud missiles, whose use threatened a Third World War.

The men of Bravo One Zero disembarked from the helicopter, gazed at the flat, coverless desert, and decided they wouldn’t proceed in that place. But Andy McNab's famous Bravo Two Zero patrol took over, with deadly results – all but one were captured or killed.

And then there was Bravo Three Zero. These men were different. They thought differently. They acted differently. Adopting the SAS saying “any fool can be uncomfortable,” they set off with vehicles, and while there was nowhere to hide, they could make a move towards the border if things became desperate.

Even when warnings came that McNab’s patrol was in jeopardy, Bravo Three Zero remained unnoticed – the most remote forces of cohesion behind Iraq’s lines. Escaping enemy positions, they launched attacks on a series of targets. But as the desert became bitter and snow began to fall, they were forced to fight for survival, against the elements as much as the enemy.

Though overshadowed by the fate of Bravo Two Zero, the achievements of this highly decorated patrol are legendary among elite forces. Now, for the first time, SAS veteran Des Powell reveals their story in gritty detail. Co-written with acclaimed military author Damien Lewis, this is a harrowing tale behind enemy lines. Harsh, wild, relentless – prepare to be amazed, in a narrative that absolutely proves the SAS motto – who dares wins.
