The author focuses on the value of student participation in the school decision-making process, proposing the Democratic School Administration System (DSAS), a system that could encourage their involvement in school operations, improve academic performance, and enrich their oral language, which is connected to the school administration system.
Student participation in the school decision-making process has also been proposed by other researchers in the past (Jonston 1993), with the difference that these researchers did not mention in their studies that this participation would enrich the language of working-class students and improve academic performance and functioning for all students.
Therefore, the author’s proposal could contribute to the knowledge of education regarding the enrichment of these students' language and the improvement of their academic performance and functioning.
Additionally, based on research, methods of teaching are described that contribute to low academic performance among working-class students, and those are proposed that can enhance their academic performance and functioning, such as incorporating their cultural characteristics into teaching methods.
