From the Chinese strategist Sun Tzu to the military theorist Von Clausewitz, intelligence gathering (whether espionage or not) is considered an indispensable Art for understanding the opponent and dealing with them on the battlefield.

The national security architecture of every country is based on four pillars: 1) Armed Forces, 2) Official Diplomacy, 3) National Security Council, and 4) Intelligence Community.
