This work presents two interesting aspects of pediatrics, the developmental and the social. Utilizing a collection of notes from the eponymous course at the Medical School of AUTH, the authors include a series of common topics and issues that are presented in a practical manner, framed by both contemporary and classical literature, thereby reflecting the up-to-date practices of diagnosis and management of the most frequent developmental and social problems in childhood, while taking into account the particularities of the Greek context and the National Health System in general.
The first part titled "Developmental Pediatrics" describes the principles of psychomotor development – neurological examination, the formation of the nervous system, causes of disability – ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning difficulties, cerebral palsy, sleep disorders in childhood, behavioral and emotional disorders, tic disorders, and Tourette syndrome.
In the section "Social Pediatrics," topics such as accidents and poisonings, the hospital and the child, the child and the media, the phenomenon of bullying, the migration issue and the child, family conflicts and divorce, and mourning in childhood are developed.
• The authors are faculty members of the A' Pediatric Clinic AUTH and doctors of the NHS at "Hippokration" General Hospital of Thessaloniki.
