Description

BLOOD DROP AWARD 2021 in the category of Best Crime Novel.

Rescuers in LounsoRive are searching for a group of missing persons. What were these people doing in the wilderness in the depths of winter? And why did they abandon their shelter, inadequately dressed, vulnerable to the harsh weather conditions?

At the same time, strange occurrences are observed at the isolated radar station in Stokshnes. Here, nothing is as it seems — whether it’s a lake of blood on the pristine, untouched snow, far from civilization, an anomaly on the radar, a child's shoe appearing unexpectedly decades after its disappearance, or a hole in the rocks that seems to drag people to their doom…

THE PRESS WROTE

The new novel by the author of Revenge that will chill your blood. Terrifying! Icelandic horror that will keep you glued. Politiken

An excellent, dark story full of suspense. Jyllands-Posten

Yrsa Sigurdardottir has written a well-crafted and enigmatic novel with an impressive sequence of chilling scenes dominated by otherworldly details that provoke fright. Belingske

This is Yrsa's year. In this novel, she has caught fire. She manages to increase the horror and evoke chills without ever overdoing it. Kiljan TV

The atmosphere resembles the explosion of a geothermal geyser. At first, everything seems calm, it begins to simmer, boil, and in the end, it explodes, followed by pandemonium. The plot is thrilling and tight, the premise horrifying and chilling. Morgunbladid

In this thriller, Yrsa Sigurdardottir proves once again that she “creates horror stories as skillfully as Stephen King.” Independent

An even deeper silence wrapped around the hut. Johanna covered her face with her hands and took a deep breath through her nose. From the smell of the air, she understood that there was no chance this hut had become the mass grave of those people. She felt a momentary relief. However, again, this meant absolutely nothing. The cold was just as unbearable inside and outside. The two rescuers stood looking at the colorful clothes with curiosity. Johanna began to think. Something inside her told her they had been forgotten there very recently. They looked spotless, and the dust had not yet had time to cover them. They had no choice but to go further inside and see with their own eyes what had really happened.

I don't know if it's the author's writing or the translation, but it's the first time (and I've read hundreds of books of this genre) that I can't make sense of it. Time jumps from one sentence to another and gaps in the flow constantly make me go back and read again and again, trying to understand the meaning and chronological sequence of events. A confusing mess that has exhausted me immensely, even though I'm on page 70. I don't know if I'll be able to finish it.... I'll come back.

    Update:
I eventually finished it because the plot kept me interested. However, the problem continued until the end!

    I don't know!

    Update.
Since then, I have read two more books by Sigurdardottir and I have to say that I was thrilled by her writing. No comparison!
It's up to you to draw your own conclusion!

    Happy reading...
