Post-emergence, systemic, selective foliage herbicide of the phenoxyalkanoic group for the control of annual and certain perennial broadleaf weeds in Winter Cereals (wheat, barley, rye, oats) and lawns. It is primarily absorbed by the leaves of the weeds. It moves systemically through the plant tissues via both the xylem and phloem and accumulates in the young meristematic tissues. It causes epinasty and asymmetric growth of the plants with characteristic twisting of the leaves and their young shoots and affects respiration, the reserves of essential nutrients, and cell division. Biochemically, 2,4-D acts like natural auxins.
