You plug it in and relax, but for the hard stuff it needs the app. You can attach the clamps any way you like (there is no + and -), it will not short-circuit no matter what. It figures out on its own whether the battery is lithium, AGM, or standard and starts up. It shows you with lights exactly how many hours until you are ready. It is expensive, and to "bring back to life" a dead battery, you have to open the Bluetooth app. The package does not include the permanent cables for the bike; you have to pay extra for them.
