Description

This edition includes the proceedings of the Sixth Panhellenic Conference of the Land Registry Studies Center, held in collaboration with the Chios Bar Association, at the Omirion Cultural Center of Chios on September 9 and 10, 2022, with the theme “From the feudal regime of the newly established Greek State to that of the National Land Registry.”

The occasion for this specific topic was the necessity to review the evolution of proprietary rights from the feudal regime of the newly established Greek State to that of the National Land Registry. Thus, distinguished speakers present in the first session legal protection and defense concerning former Ottoman-era lands under an operational land registry, while the second session focuses on forest and ecclesiastical property within the scope of the National Land Registry.

The third session will pique the interest of attendees with issues of acquisitive prescription and exchangeable lands under a land registry regime, while the fourth session is dedicated to cross-jurisdictional issues of land registry law, such as peculiar feudal regimes and land registry issues in the jurisprudence of Chios courts.

It is evident that two hundred years after Greece's liberation, the law of the Ottoman period remains relevant. The exploration and compilation of legal case data show that a significant number of decisions by civil courts at all levels cite provisions of Roman, Byzantine-Roman, or Ottoman law, offering practical value to the conference and this volume.

The overall coordination and editing of this work were undertaken by the President and Scientific Director of the Land Registry Studies Center, Professor Georgios Diamantopoulos, while this volume is dedicated to Professor Yanna Karympali-Tsiptsiu for her multifaceted contribution to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
