This house is special for only one person, Arthur Dent, and that's simply because he happens to be its occupant. He has been living in it for almost three years, since he left London because life there made him anxious and irritable. Arthur Dent is almost thirty years old, tall, dark-haired, and always a bit nervous. And now, right outside his house, a yellow bulldozer threatens to demolish it. However, on this particular Thursday, something completely inexplicable happens: large spaceships stand in the sky, above every earthly nation. Motionless, enormous, steady in the sky, a blasphemy against nature. People are in shock trying to comprehend what they are seeing.
"This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council speaking," says a voice suddenly, and it is indeed a marvelous sound. "As you are surely aware, the development plans for the remote areas of the galaxy require the construction of a hyperspace expressway through your planetary system, and unfortunately, your planet is among those scheduled for demolition. The entire process will take less than two Earth minutes. Thank you."
