Description

The authors of this collective volume aim to explore from various perspectives some fundamental questions related to the teaching of Algebra, provide answers, and present instructional proposals.

The published works cover a wide range of topics of theoretical and practical interest, including:

  • The presentation of central, contemporary research data on the learning and teaching of Algebra and the formulation of some initial key conclusions.
  • The connection of theory with teaching practice - an issue considered very critical in mathematics education - on central topics such as problem-solving.
  • The highlighting of the importance of studying patterns for the development of early forms of algebraic reasoning or the introduction of basic concepts such as functions.
  • The historical and pedagogical analysis of the difficulties faced by students at higher levels of mathematical thinking, such as generalization and proof.
  • The connection of Mathematics with Physics and the demands placed on teaching and learning by handling related problems.
  • The highlighting of certain issues related to the utilization of technology for teaching and learning Algebra in secondary education.

Given that all of the above represent cutting-edge points in the multiple activities being developed internationally for the teaching and learning of Algebra, the collective volume of E.P.E.D.I.M. comes to fill a gap in the Greek literature on the Didactics of Mathematics.
