In few cultures did sports hold such a high position as in ancient Greece. The aim of this book is to present our athletic past, revealing the fascination of sports, "eudaimonia," and their spiritual content.

The book is divided into (6) sections:

Pre-history of athletic competitions: the reasons for holding them, athletic competitions in Minoan Crete, the athletic descriptions by Homer, contests for choosing a spouse, religion and competitions, etc.

Organization of ancient games: the truce, the preparation of athletes and venues, prizes, the Hellanodikai, the significance of the games, etc.

Ancient sports: their character, origins, athlete qualifications, trainers, coaches, training and nutrition, sports of the Panhellenic Games and those outside the Panhellenic Games, etc.

Ancient games: the 52 Panhellenic festivals where athletic competitions were held, the spectators, critics, bribery, rewards, doping, etc.

Ancient Champions: information about 83 Olympic champions and other distinguished athletes, etc.

Ancient arts and sports: sculpture, reliefs, painting, mosaics, vases, jewelry, poetry, epigrams, victory odes, etc.
