The Greeks through the Eyes of the Arabs (a translation of the classical Arabic work titled "The Meadows of Gold and the Mines of Gems") is the masterpiece of the polyhistor Iraqi historian and geographer Al-Mas'udi, who is also known as "the Herodotus of the Arabs." The excerpts related to the Greeks are collected and translated for the first time into Greek directly from the Arabic language.
In this book, Al-Mas'udi also provides information about ancient civilizations, nations, and societies that he recorded during his travels. He presents information he gathered in his time about the Greek kings and Alexander the Great with his wars in India, the Ptolemies, the kings of Constantinople, the Emperors of Byzantium after the advent of Islam, the history of Alexandria and its lighthouse.
It is considered one of the most important classical works of Arabic literature, a kind of global historical encyclopedia.
