Until today, we did not have a comprehensive Introduction to the Science of Theatre in Greek literature, despite the fact that the teaching of Theatre Studies in separate Theatre Studies Departments at the university level has been around for 20 years.
The structure of this book is dictated by an imagined interlocutor, who is the student of theatre studies and follows generally inductive steps. However, great emphasis has been placed on theatre outside the theatre, the theatrical element that exists in social life and in a series of events, ceremonies, rituals, interactions, social processes, etc.
The main text is accompanied by footnotes, which are either explanatory or provide fundamental bibliography. There are also Notes within the text that address the reader/student, giving useful information, explanations, and guidance for reading and study.
An introduction cannot replace the course, which is a living teaching and dialogue. Nevertheless, I tried, in the solitude of the writer, to have before me, in an ideal way, a student audience to whom I speak. Whether I succeeded in being recognized behind the pages and lines is for the reader to judge.
