The ancient Greek tragedy raised, in its time, through the mirror of myth, the pressing issues regarding humanity within the folds of society. It described conflicting situations, showed how people confront violence, ritual, and worship; it presented the downfall of great figures and the fears of humanity.

All the problematic situations and conflicts that ancient Greek tragedy addresses remain unsolved and constitute issues of our own time, which, within the framework of a democratic society with international outreach (despite all setbacks), are openly discussed, as they are relevant.

The ancient tragedy functions, in this context, as a large resonator, and the theater, by assimilating it, makes the past part of the present. The tragedy makes explicit the unspeakable, and from this, the theater today, as well as then, gains a disturbing power that compels us to reflect and that, through the allure exerted by the ancient myths that are foreign to us, provokes not only emotional shock but also the "pleasure one derives from tragic subjects".

A society without theater would lose a "public space for experimentation for a fragile arrangement of conflicts" and, along with it, its emotional balance. We need ancient Greek tragedy.
