The debt crisis marks the collapse of a model of fictitious growth, which, as it evolved, was characterized by kleptocracy, wastefulness, irrationality, parasitism, arbitrariness, and impunity.
Along with this model, the unspoken social contract between the ruling class and the middle and lower classes, which served as the foundation of this model, also collapses. Besides the indigenous aspect of the crisis, there is also the European one. Greece is not the black sheep of the Eurozone, as the European elite claimed. It is the weakest link in a not-so-sturdy chain.
The euro is threatened by its systemic crisis. Greece has now become a guinea pig. It is the first EU member state where shock therapy is being applied, attempting to dismantle the European social acquis. The outcome of this experiment will determine the future not only of the societies in the European periphery but also of the societies in the European core.
