Penelope Delta was born in 1874 in Alexandria and died in 1941 in Athens. She was the daughter of the national benefactor Emm. Benaki. From a young age, she was involved in literature and philology.

She wrote children's books, aiming to cultivate the national and spiritual growth of the Greek youth. She first appeared in literature in 1909, during one of the most significant moments of Hellenism, with a short story entitled “For the Homeland.”

She wrote original fairy tales, novels, and various educational works. Her work is inspired by modern Greek traditions. Her most famous works include: “Fairy Tale Without a Name,” “The Madman,” “In the Time of the Bulgar Slayer,” “For the Homeland,” “The Secrets of the Marsh,” “The Life of Christ,” among others.
