Description

This text highlights the terrifying similarities between modern Islamism and the fascism of the 20th century, as shaped by Hitler and Mussolini. Islamism, similar to those notorious ideologues, continues to promote imperialistic dreams of global domination, a belief in its inherent superiority, contempt for the rest of humanity, and often a murderous agenda.

Hamid Abdel-Samad, who was born and raised in Egypt but now permanently resides in Germany, not only looks back at the past and the simultaneous birth of the fascist movements in Europe alongside similar extremist Islamic organizations. He also examines the fascist tendencies that have been observed within Islam itself throughout its historical trajectory.

By focusing on significant figures and events from past centuries, his thorough analysis reveals the impressive influence that primary Islam and its former conquests continue to have on today's political and social reality in the Arab world.

The book is based on a landmark lecture the author gave in Cairo on Islamic fascism, which prompted three senior clerics to call for his execution.

“As someone who has long been skeptical of the term ‘Islamofascism’, I concede that Hamid Abdel-Samad makes the strongest case so far for viewing Islamism as a derivative of fascism. The depth of his knowledge and the accuracy of his arguments make this book a powerful read and a critical analysis for understanding the enemy.” Daniel Pipes, Middle East Forum

“In compelling language, the author presents an illuminating critique of Islamism. An interesting and valuable book.” Deutsche Welle Radio Website

“Hamid Abdel-Samad was once an Islamist. Now he is the public commentator who combats what he once passionately endorsed.” Süddeutsche Zeitung
