Foreword to the 5th Edition

In the 5th edition of the book “Special Inorganic Chemistry – The Chemical Elements and Their Compounds”, the presentation and systematic organization of the material remains the same as in previous editions. The discovery of new substances and their utility has led to an increase in the content of some chapters. The effectiveness of these discoveries pertains not only to chemistry but also to other sciences and technology.

Foreword to the 1st Edition

The publication of the book “Special Inorganic Chemistry” covers that part of the material of Inorganic Chemistry that refers to the chemical elements and their compounds. The greater extent of this book compared to the previous one is due to the effort made for a more comprehensive update on the most significant recent developments in inorganic chemistry. The division of each chapter into smaller sections and the addition of new data is a main feature of this edition.

The presentation of the properties of the chemical elements and their compounds is done, as in the previous edition, in a systematic manner, according to the groups of the periodic table. The method of presentation is comparative and reflects the changes that have occurred in Inorganic Chemistry in recent years. In each chapter, both the normal and unusual behavior of certain elements is developed.

The methods of preparation generally refer to the main processes necessary for the isolation of the elements. At the same time, special mention is made of cases where exceptions to the general method occur. Along with the reference to the new methods of preparing certain elements and their compounds, the most characteristic chemical properties are developed, as well as the most important applications of Inorganic Chemistry in other fields of science and technology.
