Description In her fifth non-medical themed book, titled "From the Diary of Lockdown," the physician and author Vana Christopoulou-Kokkinou records, in the form of a diary, her experiences and activities during the total or partial lockdowns over the two years of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as her memories, readings, and even her dreams.
The author herself notes: "… After the initial surprise, which gradually turned into anxiety and fear, affected by the course that our life took, I immediately adapted, faithfully complying with the necessary health measures decided by the authorities of our country, especially due to my role as a physician. Of course, the gradual realization of the restriction of our daily lives, focusing our existence in our homes, led me to the decision to devise and implement a way to maintain some order, far from the impending chaos and panic that can inevitably follow such 'warlike' situations.
Thus, I decided, at first loosely, more methodically later on, not necessarily daily nor compulsively, to record my activities in a casual diary format as the situation warranted. This little by little, usually starting from current events, evolved into accounts not only of the often monotonous daily routine but also into a refuge in memories, readings, thoughts, nostalgic experiences from my travels, or from my medical career, even from my dreams.
These are the products of my life during all those months of 'lockdown,' full, partial, or occasional, but also of the events happening around us, both in our homeland and the rest of the world. And this is because, no matter what, life goes on in defiance of any coronavirus.
Vana Christopoulou Kokkinou was born in Athens, where she studied medicine. She mainly trained in hematology in the USA, and for over thirty years, she has directed the Hematology Laboratory of the 'Evangelismos' Hospital. She is married to a physician professor of Cardiology and is the mother of three sons, also physicians, and has three grandchildren.
Other books of hers include "An Ordinary Story" (Philippotis, 1987), "Scattered Words" (Libro, 1993), "Life is a Journey" (Libro, 2003), and "On the Occasion..." (Libro, 2017).
