The chronicle of a twenty-year personal struggle against the pathologies of the Greek public sector. Can a country hope for an exit from the quagmire of decline when:
- among other things, officials of its highest fiscal court and their spouses, the director of a political party in Parliament and his wife, a minister and the director of his political office, as well as the son of a minister operate as embezzlers of public funds?
- the Court of Auditors, the highest fiscal court, with trivial pretexts stubbornly refuses to examine the actual facts and evidence, functioning as a defense attorney for the squanderers of public money?
- the same court obstinately refuses the return of provocatively illegal compensations to the State and "needs" a whole eighteen years (2003-2021) to deliver an incomplete, biased, deliberately undocumented, and childishly erroneous audit?
- successive presidents of the same court remain indifferent in the face of irrefutable evidence of illegal compensations received by even executives or spouses of executives thereof?
- a simple administrative employee forces the highest fiscal court for years into substantial cancellations or successive corrections of suppression audit reports, thereby demonstrating its complete unreliability?
- a Court of Appeal blatantly ignores a fully substantiated referral Prosecutor's proposal for defendants on a multitude of felony charges against the State and issues an acquittal without any scrutiny of the evidential material of the case file, with the sole criterion being the completely vague and undocumented invocation of good faith?
- successive leaderships of the Ministry of Finance at best are negligent or, at worst, undermine efforts to recover illegal compensations and to scrutinize those responsible for them?
Could all of the above operate independently and not interdependently? These are some of the questions that arise through the reading of this chronicle and the irrefutable evidence that accompanies it.
The reader may be led to safe answers and understand the scope of phenomena that stigmatize the Greek state from its establishment to the present day. Nothing is random, and despite the recent painful bankruptcy, the history of the country seems to repeat itself. Where is Greece heading? Where are we all going together?
