The educational systems of Western countries have been called upon for several decades to manage an ever-increasing and heterogeneous population in terms of language, religion, and ethnicity. These new conditions radically change the role of educators, who must adapt to increased demands through further training.
In this context, Greek educators who are posted abroad also need further training, as the particularities of Greek-language education in foreign countries are many and cannot be addressed without specific resources.
The immediate need for measures is imposed by the discrepancy between the increased training needs and the reduced provision of training opportunities, the geographical distance from Greece, and the peculiarities of the educational systems in other countries.
Distance education represents an alternative method of training, which can alleviate some of the limitations of conventional training methods and meet the increased demand for providing educational programs to educators posted abroad.
