Description

Description

Utilizing a large volume of empirical and critical theoretical work and resorting to a new language - which allows for the presentation of the theoretical constructs and the facts revealed by the research process - this study, conducted with the initiative and funding of OSDEL, reframes the fundamental traditional questions regarding reading, which are organically connected to the understanding of the social conditions that generate a love for reading.

At the same time, it analyzes the complex ties between reading, culture, social relationships, and power in contemporary Greek society. The research led to the formulation and articulation of fundamental, scientifically grounded principles that should govern any plan for strong empowerment, broad dissemination, and universal legitimization of the practice of reading. In particular, it examined the conditions for a genuine democratization of a practice as demanding and as rare as intensive reading.
