Description

Description

Stereotypical behavior is quite common in individuals with autism and hinders access to education. In the past, due to the inability to understand its function, it was referred to as paradoxical or strange behavior.

Thanks to extensive behavioral analytic research, which this manual aims to highlight, we now know that it serves a valuable function for the individual. This function involves the reception of sensory reinforcement, especially when the environment is poor in sensory stimuli.

The purpose of this manual is to highlight the function of stereotypical behavior and the multitude of evident interventions that lead to its reduction and the development of socially acceptable behaviors that serve the same function.

The goal of this manual is to assist all those actively involved in the quality of life of individuals with autism (parents, relatives, educators), or who are about to become involved, in developing and implementing effective and socially educationally valid interventions for this behavior.

INCLUDES: ASSESSMENT TABLES FOR DISORDERS & APPENDICES

Foreword by Lillian Piliou, Ph.D, BCBA Psychologist – Certified Behavior Analyst
