The Course and Practice Book consists of 16 units and four intermediate review sections called "Plateaus" after every fourth unit. The short units with their clear educational material quickly lead participants in the course to feel a sense of successful learning.

Each unit begins with a magazine-style page. The layout is based on the everyday interaction habits of learners with modern printed materials. Repeated elements allow for a clear overview. Intermediate review sections "Plateaus": Every four units are followed by three very specific double pages, the "Plateaus". The "Plateaus" deal with topics of literature, word games, and the content of "Nico's Way", the television series by Deutsche Welle. This story about Nico's arrival in Germany and his daily life there is extremely entertaining.
