Description

Successful interiors tell stories - whether it's an industrial loft, a luxurious penthouse, or a grand old villa. When presented together, as in this book, they offer us much more, providing an insight into how the world of the 21st century chooses to live. What does a dining room in Zurich look like? Or a bathroom in Niigata, Japan? What shades might the wall of a residence on Miami Beach have? And what awaits you in an apartment in St. Petersburg? One hundred homes around the world were explored, and answers were found that impressed us, challenged us, and fascinated us.

The locations could not be more diverse - nor the views. These range from the urban horizon seen from a high-rise in Singapore to the idyllic landscape of islands with rocks, pines, and water surrounding a family's country house near Stockholm. Wherever the place, the external surroundings inevitably affect the atmosphere inside. For example, Sylvia Avondur describes her windows overlooking the shipyards of Amsterdam as the most important view of her apartment.

The era of architecture is just as critical to the character of an interior. From Istanbul via Paris to Barcelona, many of these spaces are located in late 19th-century apartments, whose residents - curators have given new life to old walls. Elsewhere, we find others who equally cherish modernist houses built with the revolutionary spirit of the International Style. Lastly, there are the contemporary residences, with all the smart technological innovations, designed to meet their owners' specific needs - like the villa by the river in Dresden or the stilt house in Nagano. Regardless of whether their surfaces are historic or brand new, the interiors all around the world display the results of an aesthetic evolution that has been shaping our built world for over a hundred years.

Interiors included from Argentina, Brazil, China, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA, and many more countries.
