The Greek historiography approaches the history of Cyprus through the lens of Greek-Turkish relations, primarily examining the stance of Greek politicians within the context of alliance obligations and external dependencies.
The History of Cyprus 1950-1959, by Professor Heinz A. Richter, presents, for the first time in Greek, a multifaceted, multi-level, and easily readable analysis of the turbulent period of Cypriot history from 1950 to 1959, which was marked by the struggle for the independence of the large island and the first conflicts between its two communities.
The author draws upon diplomatic archives from all the involved states and vividly and objectively reveals unknown aspects of the struggle of EOKA and the international tug-of-war that accompanied it.
The first volume of the History of Cyprus (1878-1949) has been published by Estia. The next, third volume, which refers to the period 1959-1965, is forthcoming.
