The recent socio-political, economic, and cultural conditions, along with the subsequent unimaginable scientific advancements and upheavals (e.g., the expansion of knowledge, the positive and negative achievements of new technologies, the globalization of the economy, population growth, fierce competition, the strengthening of the individual over the collective, the expansion of living standards, the development of biotechnology, genetics, and neurosciences, the questioning of universal values, etc.) have urgently led to the development of a new perception, a new term, Universal Design, for facilitating the individual and social life of citizens.
In the field of education, Universal Design is reflected and implemented in the school for all (unified school). The new trend of inclusive education refers to the effort to recognize the individual differences of each student and to leverage them during the educational-teaching process within the framework of a unified classroom.
Thus, a trend is emerging and imposed for greater interaction and fusion of special and general education, with the goal of their creative unification. We believe that the time has come for Special Education to offer and exchange positions, values, and achievements with General Education.
Triggered by the integration of children with special educational needs into general education schools, general education as a whole can be enriched through common research programs, as required by the new trend, with new approaches to teaching (e.g., Differentiated Instruction) with new sensitive scientists at both theoretical and practical levels, and with new organizational-administrative and modern scientific infrastructures.
At the same time, the interdisciplinary nature of Special Education helps in the dissemination of research data from one scientific field to another, with the ultimate aim of developing the strategies and techniques necessary for acquiring the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required by modern society.
