I purchased this gamepad in June for Rocket League and racing games like Forza. Within three months of use, the feedback of the R trigger broke, making it useless in all racing games. There is a design flaw in the product; I will leave a link to a Reddit post that explains exactly what the problem is at the end of the review.

The controller, although expensive, has very good build quality and its charging dock is very convenient. The hall effect joysticks make a difference, as in every other controller I have had in my life (mainly Xbox controllers), they showed drift within a few months of use, and even though I have the issue with the trigger, the sticks still work perfectly (you can see this through the 8bitdo software that you can download from their site).

The controller was tested on Android and was recognized normally. It was used as long as it lived with the USB receiver that comes with the dock on Windows. Aside from a few missed inputs in the three months of use, it is very reliable overall and I did not notice any latency.

We have a premium gamepad at a good price for what it offers, but unfortunately, I cannot recommend purchasing it as sooner or later (depending on what games you play) it will develop problems with the triggers.

By far the best-made 8bitdo controller in terms of build quality. It feels solid with good quality plastic and a nice assembly that doesn't creak (unlike the Pro 2, which has had many material accuracy problems). Ergonomically, it is excellent, fitting perfectly in my hand and having a nice texture on the back of the grips that keeps it stable without sweating and allows easy access to the rear buttons. Its design resembles an Xbox controller, although it has more vertical side panels, which I find more convenient. The ABXY buttons are among the best on the market, with perfect travel and feedback. The analog sticks have a halo effect that eliminates the possibility of drift, they are precise and have a good height. The D-pad is perfect for platformers, although I find it a bit "heavy" and it may become tiring after prolonged use. Its most average feature is the triggers, which I find somewhat small, a bit soft, and with a relatively short travel distance. Its base is a nice extra feature that gives it a nice position on the desk and charges it when not in use. Its battery life is excellent, easily lasting 20 hours of gameplay, well above the market average. Overall, it is a very good controller, supporting Bluetooth and 2.4g wireless mode, connecting to a variety of devices, and by flipping the slider, you can instantly switch between them. The only negative is that it does not connect via Bluetooth to a PC, which seems completely illogical to me since all the wireless controllers I have do. So, you have to occupy one of your USB ports with its wireless dongle (included in the base). Finally, although of minimal importance, I mention that the texture on the back of the grips collects dead skin and dirt very quickly, which is highly visible on the black version and is difficult to clean. Its price is also a bit high.

In my opinion, it is the best value for money gamepad available at the moment.

I cannot know how long it will last, but judging from other products of the same company that I have, it will not break within 4 years. For me, it is unacceptable to have good equipment and whether you lose or not, to treat it poorly and break it. It shows solid construction both in terms of grip and appearance. Good quality plastics, smooth but not slippery in the hand, buttons are almost silent or make minimal noise... almost imperceptible noise. The packaging also shows that it is premium. It includes the base, inside of which is the dongle and the cable, along with the instructions.

The base is designed so that when you place it on top to charge, there is no fear of it falling. Below and slightly in front, it has an LED bar that lights up in white when connected to power and the gamepad is attached. Just below it, on the base, there is a cover and inside is the USB dongle.

It can be connected with a USB cable, either Bluetooth or wireless 2.4. I rarely connect it to the Nintendo Switch Dock, but when I do, I use the dongle. On the Nintendo Switch, I connect it directly via Bluetooth, without a cable or dongle: initially, I turn it upside down under the gamepad, press the circular button on top, then go to the console's settings, Controllers, Change Grip/Order, and from there, I locate it and activate it. You will feel a vibration when it connects. Similarly, you can do the settings with the receiver, but ALSO with the cable in the dock.

On the PC, I connect it with the 2.4 USB receiver it comes with. Simply plug it in, turn the switch on the bottom surface of the gamepad to the other side, press the circular button on top again, and it will automatically find it. On the laptop, I have used it with the cable a few times and it worked without any issues. Usually, I use the receiver. In these cases, just know that it is in xinput mode.

You can customize and organize the buttons with the company's Ultimate Software.

It weighs 245g, which you can feel a bit, but it is not bothersome. It has a built-in battery. The dock itself weighs 130g. In terms of dimensions, it resembles an Xbox controller more. According to the booklet, the dimensions are 147x104x61.5 centimeters for the gamepad and 112.1x68.8x65.9 centimeters for the dock. The gamepad has a battery of around 1000mAh.

It has an LED for the profile and separate LEDs for its status (battery, charging, etc.).

I was looking for a reliable controller mainly for my computer, which would be plug and play, without much hassle. My friends encouraged me to try 8bitdo and I decided to take a look! (I wanted to buy the Xbox Elite 2, but I didn't want to spend (yet) €150++ for a controller that I might not fully utilize.)

The packaging is excellent and gives the impression that it is a premium product, well-crafted and organized inside.

The base, cable, and adapter are beautifully designed in the white color that I chose, just like the controller itself. They have a unique texture, in a good way, which gives the impression (rightfully so) that it is a good product.

The controller itself is incredibly sturdy, it doesn't make any "noises," it doesn't have loose buttons or joysticks, it is incredibly solid, and although I haven't tried the dualsense or the new Xbox controller, it seems very good to me. I have relatively large hands and although I was a bit worried, it ended up suiting me perfectly. From the triggers that are responsive to the joysticks and buttons, almost nothing disappointed me. Maybe I would have preferred a more "clicky" D-pad, but that is obviously a subjective preference.

It is easily placed on the base, it looks like it "completes" the base in terms of shape, and when it is charging, a white LED lights up underneath to indicate that it is charging. It doesn't take up much space on the desk nor does it obstruct.

I tried it on games on Steam, Epic, and GOG, it was recognized everywhere (2.4g version), even in quite old games. Immediate, without any delay or setup.

I also downloaded the software, which seems user-friendly, but I haven't explored it much, I didn't have time.

Overall, I am satisfied with the first impression, but the true value will be revealed over time.

ATTENTION, the version that is €10 cheaper is WITHOUT the 2.4g, but for some reason, it is not clearly mentioned. In my opinion, I believe it is worth the extra €10 and it will not disappoint you.

I waited 6 months before writing this review because based on my previous experiences, I realized that I had to wait before forming an opinion about a controller. The reason I ended up with this one is because I got tired of spending 50 and 60€ on controllers that start drifting after 6 or 8 months, if not sooner. No, I'm not doing anything wrong and breaking them myself. For me, since 2023, my opinion is that hall effect joysticks are the MINIMUM spec for a controller that is not disposable and costs over 30€. Any purchase over 40€ without hall effect joysticks is bad and unacceptable, and I recommend everyone to avoid it, even if it's original or from a big brand (e.g. stay away from original XBOX). Specifically for the 8Bitdo Ultimate, my first impressions as a controller are that it is clearly high-quality and not cheap. Coming from Microsoft controllers, it felt noticeably smaller and the LT and RT buttons were in an awkward position, and I was afraid that it wouldn't be something I would get used to, but it turned out that I worried for nothing, it's perfectly fine. So far, no drift or anything, and it is also compatible with many other devices. The stand is very nice and convenient, I didn't expect to use it but it's actually really good. The software on the website didn't impress me, and I would prefer if the extra buttons had different functions, but in the end, they constantly update the software with additional features, so by the time I write this review, there will be new versions that change the experience and capabilities. However, it works perfectly fine even without the software, you don't need it. The 70-something € I spent seems to be worth it.
