Description

A magical illustrated book for Christmas, written in perfect, touching rhyme by Julia Donaldson, the best creator of Zog and Share-a-More.

Deep in a snowy forest stands a small pine tree with a special destiny: when it grows up, it will become the famous Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square!

This is the ideal illustrated book to cuddle up with and share at Christmas. The wonderful, atmospheric illustrations transport you from frozen forests to the sparkling central square in a beautiful, touching story of celebration and hope.

  • Julia Donaldson's perfect rhyme is a delight to read aloud.
  • Victoria Sandon's exceptional, atmospheric illustrations are filled with wonderful details to point out and share.
  • A paragraph on the last page of the book explains the true story behind the tree.

The Christmas Pine is based on a true story. It celebrates a special tradition that has lasted over seventy years. Every year, the Mayor of Oslo in Norway presents a spectacular Christmas tree to the British people. The tree is a symbol of peace and friendship, and a thank you for the support of the United Kingdom during World War II.

Every year, the UK Poetry Society asks a poet to write a poem to welcome the tree. Julia Donaldson originally wrote The Christmas Pine to celebrate the Christmas tree of 2020. The poem was spoken by a group of children from London and presented in Trafalgar Square.

Julia Donaldson is the author of many of the most beloved children's books ever written. She has been awarded a CBE for her services to literature and is the most recognizable children's book author in Britain today.

Many of Julia Donaldson's favorite illustrated books have been adapted into award-winning animated films that are regularly broadcast on BBC during Christmas.
