The Greek Department (E.P.P.I) of the Association Litteraire et Artistique Internationale (A.L.A.I) organized an International Conference in memory of Professor Giorgos Koumantos on Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Central Building of the University of Athens, with the theme: "The work of Giorgos Koumantos and contemporary issues of Intellectual Property".
The purpose of the Conference was to record the international contribution of Giorgos Koumantos to the formation of intellectual property law, who served as President of A.L.A.I. during the period 1981-1996.
Giorgos Koumantos anticipated the new challenges of technology in the mass dissemination and infringement of intellectual works and outlined the main directions for the promotion of the field and its evolution in the dynamics of the information society.
What we especially tried to demonstrate was the revolutionary spirit of the professor, who, through the idealism of his European education, energetically and rationally produced primary rules of law in legislative virgin areas.
With this Conference, all of us, his collaborators and students who had the fortune and honor to be guided by his legal thinking and to be inspired by his ideals, wanted to pay a final tribute to the enlightened Teacher.
