This volume is the first in the series of publications of archaeological material from the Sanctuary of Koryfi at Vrysina. The next volume, which is in the final preparation stage, is the 'Ceramics of the Davara Excavation 1973'. Subsequent volumes will focus on anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figurines, as well as the excavation conducted by the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete and the 13th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities.
The subject of this volume is a series of vessels with applied plastic elements depicting rocks and animals that cover the entire outer surface of the vessel. It represents a simple and concise depiction of landscapes that is also found in standalone models of rocks and trees. The findings, methods of artistic representation, and other corresponding Minoan artifacts are analyzed.
There follows an opening towards other categories of Minoan works featuring depictions of landscapes. The concept of perspective is discussed in depth, along with the quest for depth and the form this search takes in Minoan contexts.
