The highlighting of the poetics of Papadiamantis' short stories is the central focus and main contribution of this study.
The poetics is found not only in the linguistic surface of the stories but also in the so-called "deep structure" of their narrative material, in the ways in which their content is organized.
It is shown, in a systematic and theoretically substantiated manner, that these linguistic and structural ways decisively characterize lyrical poetry, while they are uniquely incompatible with the genre of narrative prose and specifically its realistic narrative form, in which, nevertheless, Papadiamantis' short stories are classified.
