What is Benebone? Dogs love its flavor, push its durability to the limit, and can lay around for hours chewing. That’s why Benebone uses real flavors of chicken, bacon, fish, peanut, and maple. It’s a very durable chew toy made from extremely strong nylon, all sourced from the USA and designed with a paw-friendly grip that can keep your dog occupied for hours. Benebone is a chew toy and is not edible. As any chew toy or bone wears down, it’s possible for some part of it to be consumed, so monitor your dog closely. Depending on the size, quantity, and consumption time, non-edible products may cause gastrointestinal issues. Be cautious - if you think any part of the Benebone can be consumed, it should be removed immediately.
Is your dog an aggressive chewer? Benebone is made from nylon, which is a tough material. Aggressive chewing can lead to chips or cracks in teeth and potentially result in tooth loss/extraction. Not all dogs have the teeth to withstand aggressive chewing of hard materials like nylon. Tooth damage is an inevitable risk when using chew toys of this hardness and durability. Consider softer products to avoid this risk if your dog is an aggressive chewer. But don't forget the puppy product line, which is a bit softer. Benebones are also not suitable for older dogs that may have reduced tooth strength.
What size to choose? Each Benebone comes with a general guideline for what size to select. Benebones are not suitable for dogs that weigh more than our recommended guidelines or for dogs that are very strong or very aggressive chewers. Therefore, always choose the largest product that your dog can handle, even if you have a dog intended for a smaller size. The Small and Puppy variations are very small and should not be given to larger dogs. WARNING! All Benebone sizes are marked in pounds and not in kilograms. 1 pound is approximately equivalent to 0.5 kilograms.
When should you replace your dog's Benebone? Benebone is durable and designed to last and retain flavor longer than most chew toys. Anywhere from a few days to a few weeks or more, but it is recommended to replace it monthly if wear indicates it should be. Generally, if rice-sized pieces or smaller come off the Benebone, these typically do not pose a problem. However, if there is a risk that larger pieces may break off, the bone should be discarded and replaced with a new one.
