Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is dead. His last conscious act on his deathbed was the composition of his Lacrimosa from the Opus Requiem. You, as one of his patrons, will meet with the widow to participate one last time in the funding of the Austrian genius's works.
In Lacrimosa, players take on the roles of the late musician's patrons, contributing their funding to the composer's works for the last time. During the game, you play in two different timelines: the present and the past.
- In the present, you commission the missing parts of the Requiem to other composers to complete it.
- During the development of past events, the game takes place over five periods in which you contribute by purchasing new compositions from the composer to sell or exhibit.
- You accompany Mozart on various journeys to venues and theaters across Europe.
- You gather the resources you need to support the musician throughout his career.
During the game, you play cards from a limited hand which you will improve as the game progresses. These cards can be played either as actions or as resource generators, and players must optimize their resources and finances to support the best version of the story and their relationship with Mozart.
