Description

Reinforced concrete is one of the most commonly used fundamental construction materials worldwide. Consequently, understanding its structural behavior under the influence of gravity and seismic loads, although complex, is crucial for designing safe and economically efficient buildings.

The book Concrete Buildings in Seismic Regions thoroughly covers all the analysis and study problems associated with the design of reinforced concrete buildings subjected to seismic actions. It is suitable as a reference book for both the structural engineer facing specific issues at the study stage and the undergraduate or graduate student attending courses in statics, concrete, and seismic technology.

This revised (2nd English) edition offers a new and extensive presentation of seismic isolation and passive mechanisms topics, covers recent amendments to the regulations, and includes references regarding the future evolution of standards. The general presentation of the subjects in the dynamics of structures, analysis, and design of new reinforced concrete buildings in seismic regions, assessment of damage magnitude after an earthquake, pre-earthquake evaluation of buildings, and intervention methods in structures is maintained, while it also includes many numerical examples.

The book outlines suitable static systems for various types of buildings and examines developments over the past twenty years in analysis, design, and seismic technology. Specifically, it analyzes issues related to seismic requirements and fundamental topics in structural dynamics, investigates the "capacity" of static systems to withstand seismic actions in terms of strength and deformation, and emphasizes the evaluation of existing reinforced concrete structures under seismic load.

The content of the book is developed in accordance with modern seismic regulations and allows for a complete understanding of the background upon which the provisions of the regulations are based. The content complies with European regulations for reinforced concrete buildings in seismic regions and also includes references to current American seismic design standards.
