From the ancient Greek novel to contemporary folk tales, Hollywood films, and some of the most famous video game titles, the plot in which a boy saves a girl (who often plays a crucial role in the shared salvation) so that they may live happily ever after is always very high on the audience's preferences.

It seems that Euripides is one of the shapers of this dramatic genre, and Iphigenia in Tauris represents his first surviving revelation. It is a study of anticipation, perseverance, and ingenuity, set in a spacetime "where the miracle still functions."

The rhythm of the action embodies playfulness, genuine tragedy, comic lightness, and trembling anxiety. The genre's "bitonality" – the instantaneous shifts from irony to devastation, as well as the more extensive transitions from panic to hilarity – makes a performance of this rather unclassifiable work (that corresponds to the richness of the text) a challenging gamble for the creators.

This edition illuminates all aspects of the work (historical, stylistic, factual, etc.) through an extensive introduction, while through the translation it seeks to reintroduce the valuable "music" of the original to the audience.
