Imposing over the lands like a dark giant, the unparalleled tower of Orthanc inspires awe and admiration both for its purpose and its construction. At the center of the Ring of Isengard stand the famous stone towers, made of shiny black material and anchored by monoliths of dark rock.
The Tower of Orthanc was the home of the Wizard Saruman, where he studied the ways of the enemy. A Palantír Saruman, one of the ancient stones of Númenor, was located there, through which the Wizard observed the machinations of Sauron, enamored with the arts of the Dark Lord.
Pride and folly led Saruman into the trap of Sauron, and Orthanc, once a place of learning, was looted by the Orcs. The landscape around it changed, transformed into a pit that fed the fires of industry, and the plains turned into a scorched wasteland.
