Latent image in photographic terminology refers to the physical imprint of visible reality that, from the moment of exposure, is installed on the photographic film, not yet as an image, but as stored energy.
In this state, it remains until the chemical processing of the film, which will convert the energy into an image. This "potential" image is placed at the center of photographic creation, as what is a living moment at the time of exposure has coherence and meaning, entering into a state of temporary non-existence of the photographic image.
In the imagination of the photographer, the latent image takes the form that they wish, desire, and hope to have captured. Therefore, it is appropriate to consider it as the imaginary that for almost two centuries has hosted the desire for representation. And this has nothing to do with silver or the pixels of the photosensitive surface.
