Theotokis, Konstantinos (1872-1923). Greek prose writer, representative of the Ionian School. He was born in Corfu and came from an aristocratic family. He studied natural sciences and mathematics at the Sorbonne, sociology, and philosophy in Munich.
From his student years, he published his works in the literary magazines of the time. A member of socialism and a supporter of Venizelism, he developed intense political activity. His knowledge of ten languages helped him in translating foreign works (Indian epics Mahabharata and Ramayana, Macbeth, Virgil, etc.).
From his bibliography, the following stand out: The Life and Death of Karavela, The Condemned Man, Honor and Money. He was a supporter of Demoticism and a pioneer of the social novel. 'Honor and Money' is an extensive short story (novella) that was published in installments in Noumas. The entire work is based on the contrasts of honor-money and love-social standing.
