Romed 18G Venous Catheters with Valve and Wings

Sterile 18G IV venous catheters with infusion valve.

  • Thin walls with high flow capacity to prevent fluctuations in flow and minimize mechanical irritation or thrombophlebitis.
  • Smooth surface.
  • Special design of the tip and bevel for minimal trauma during venipuncture.
  • Special "grip" design for one-handed venipuncture.
  • Flexible wings.
  • Equipped with a hydrophobic blood switch.
  • Screwed luer-lock connection for infusion.
  • Removable protective cone for the catheter.
  • Color coding for sizes.

Indications for Use of Venous Catheters

  • Administration of medications for intravenous therapy.
  • Administration of intravenous fluids-electrolytes.
  • Administration of parenteral nutrition.
  • Blood transfusion and derivatives.
  • Administration of intravenous agents for diagnostic purposes (e.g., contrast agents).

Placement of Venous Catheter

  • The selected veins are the dorsal surface of the hand, forearm, and foot.
  • The nurse is responsible for selecting the appropriate vein and adhering to aseptic principles during the placement and care of the venous catheter.
  • Maintenance of catheter patency and proper care to prevent complications.
  • Management of complications.

Basic Principles for Placement of Venous Catheters

  • Selection of upper limb veins for catheter placement.
  • Selection of catheter size based on the purpose and condition of the patient’s venous network.
  • Daily assessment of the venous catheter insertion site.
  • Removal of the catheter if signs of phlebitis or infection appear.
  • Catheter replacement should not be performed more frequently than every 72-96 hours to reduce the risk of infection and phlebitis.
  • Smaller-sized venous catheters cause less irritation to the endothelium of the veins.
