Description

Ancient and Modern Greek: related yet opposing forms, similarities and differences; the place of the ancients in education and in everyday linguistic practice.

The evolution of language and the "disastrous Atticism" (G. N. Chatzidakis). The change and evolution of language through loans, deviations, and errors, both semantically and syntactically.

The linguistic sense and the "logic" that governs, supports, and establishes deviations.

The history of tones: the polytonic system, scientific misspelling in Modern Greek.

New trends in language use and writing: archaic verbal forms: ηρνείτο and συνεπήγετο; scholarly erroneous syntax: verbs that are combined, contrary to their archaic past, with genitive, such as μετέρχομαι, διαφεύγω, αποποιούμαι.

Combining alphabets: chic -άτη and media -κός; ancient or newer words that are now divided into two: "εξ απίνης," "κι όλας," "δι ό"; newer compound words that are written with a hyphen or as two words: "αλαφρο-ίσκιωτη," "πολυ-μιλάω," "έτσι-θελισμός," "ξανά φεύγω," "παλιο χαρακτήρας," etc.

The restoration of the archaic Cleus, which from the 1st century AD had been smoothed into Cleios, and its extension into contemporary popular diminutives: of Zouzou, of Gogo, etc.

The decline that progressed from foreign toponyms: of Beijing, of Atlanta, of Hanover, to Greek personal names: of Lydia, of Rebecca, etc., and mainly in common, everyday words: τα γιαπί, του πασατέμπο, τα παλτό, and τα μπουφέ.

Broader linguistic cleansing, which is confused with a more general neo-conservatism, or temporary trends?

Futile, unscientific attempts for orthographic, morphophonological, etc. regulation of the language, when language, like all languages, self-regulates and progresses.
