Description & Specifications

The recognition of the National Resistance of Greece (EAM) under the form of a unified, universal, and indivisible entity, in 1982, is one of the most significant events of the Third Hellenic Republic. However, the National Resistance was not recognized for the first time in 1982. The book examines this recognition as a long and complex process of state political and social claims, which began with the liberation of the country in 1944 and was completed in 2006. With the argument that recognition primarily constituted a matter of national integration and exclusion, with the concept of "Hellenicity" at its core, this study reanalyzes post-war Greek history through the prism of a central but often forgotten process that, among other things, produced policies, created networks of power, gave meaning to the national past in multiple ways, shaped identities, provoked political and social conflicts as well as convergences, and shaped and was shaped by pivotal events such as the Civil War, the Dictatorship, and the Metapolitefsi.
