I bought 3 different Vstarcam cameras last summer, as I couldn't find 3 pieces of the same model. The cameras were the CS69, CS58, and CS550. The CS550 seems to be from a previous generation but it was also the camera that came with the most extras in the box.
All were connected via Wifi and installed in a detached house in Athens. For software, I used O-KAM Pro for mobile. In the winter, I removed the CS69 and CS550 so they wouldn't get wet, as they were exposed.
All 3 cameras lasted the entire summer period without a single problem or disconnection. They were rock solid.
In terms of image quality, the cameras were fine with enough clarity for the distances they were monitoring (max 15-20 m).
O-KAM Pro seems to be just a custom version of Vstarcam's software that accompanies all cheap cameras, regardless of brand (e.g., it's identical to the software from Xiaomi's baby cam). Maybe not the easiest program in the world but it gets the job done.
After months of use, I didn't notice any fogging from moisture or drop in image quality, but it's clear that they will struggle to last many seasons under the scorching Athenian sun. Some rubber gaskets that seal the camera's box from moisture have already started to burn. On the fixed cameras (CS58, CS550), the points where there are axes to change the aim and the axes that hold the antennas have become excessively hardened by the sun and are hard to turn.
The points where the cameras did not perform well were motion detection and color night vision. As for motion detection... maybe it could work at an apartment building entrance but in a complex environment (trees moving, shadows from the moving sun, etc.) it's just chaos. Even with the limitation of the motion detection area using the little squares, they just can't manage. False alerts, movement not being detected, they simply can't do it. Therefore, features like human detection, etc., constantly make mistakes and are unreliable. Unfortunately, this means you can't rely solely on motion alerts and if you want to be sure you have to record 24/7, either via the company's cloud (fortunately, it has very reasonable prices) or with an SD card (which is not included with the purchase).
The second area where the cameras don't always perform well is color night vision, where if there is enough light (common in the city) the camera provides a color image even at night. Here there were differences between the 3 models I tested as the CS58 could consistently provide a color image, the CS550 struggled a lot, while the CS69 managed it 7 out of 10 times.
A serious problem I encountered after 6 months of use had to do with connectivity to the router (an old Technicolor from Nova). Something happened and they just couldn't all connect together. As soon as you managed to connect one, you lost another. After many tests, I diagnosed that something was wrong and they couldn't get an IP for some reason. I solved the problem by resetting the router to factory settings (a simple on/off didn't solve it). From this, I believe the problem was with the router and not the cameras, but I mention it in case someone else encounters it. In this matter, by far the most stable camera was the CS58 which almost never had a problem and always connected first and best.
The money I paid last year for each one was around €50, so at the prices I see them this year, I think they are worth buying. Of the three, if there is no need for PTZ, I recommend the CS58.
Αγόρασα 3 διαφορετικές κάμερες της Vstarcam πέρυσι το καλοκαίρι, καθώς δεν μπορούσα να βρω 3 τεμάχια από το ίδιο μοντέλο. Οι κάμερες ήταν οι CS69, CS58 και CS550. Η CS550 φαίνεται να είναι προηγούμενης γενιάς αλλά ήταν και η κάμερα που ήρθε με τα περισσότερα extras μέσα στο κουτί.
Όλες συνδέθηκαν μέσω Wifi και τοποθετήθηκαν σε μονοκατοικία στην Αθήνα. Για software χρησιμοποίησα το O-KAM Pro για κινητό. Το χειμώνα έβγαλα τις CS69 και CS550 για να μην φάνε νερό, καθώς ήταν εκτεθειμένες.
Και οι 3 κάμερες έβγαλαν όλη την καλοκαιρινή περίοδο χωρίς ούτε ένα πρόβλημα ή αποσύνδεση. Ήταν μπετόν αρμέ.
Από πλευράς εικόνας οι κάμερες ήταν μια χαρά με αρκετή ευκρίνεια για τις αποστάσεις που κοιτούσαν (μαξ 15-20 μ.)
Το O-KAM Pro φαίνεται να είναι απλά μια custom έκδοση της Vstarcam ενός software που συνοδεύει όλες τις φθηνές κάμερες, ανεξαρτήτου μάρκας (πχ. είναι ολόιδιο με το software από το baby cam της Xiaomi). Ίσως όχι το πιο εύκολο πρόγραμμα στον κόσμο αλλά κάνει τη δουλειά του.
Μετά από τους μήνες χρήσης δεν παρατήρησα κάποιο θόλωμα από υγρασία ή πτώση ποιότητας στην εικόνα, αλλά είναι φανερό ότι θα δυσκολευτούν να βγάλουν πολλές σαιζόν κάτω από τον καυτό Αθηναϊκό ήλιο. Κάποιες λαστιχένιες φλάντζες που ασφαλίζουν το κουτί της κάμερας από την υγρασία έχουν ήδη αρχίζει να καίγονται. Στις σταθερές κάμερες (CS58, CS550), τα σημεία όπου υπάρχουν άξονες για να αλλάζεις τη στόχευση αλλά και οι άξονες που κρατάνε τις κεραίες έχουν σκληρύνει υπερβολικά από τον ήλιο και ζορίζονται για να γυρίσουν.
Τα σημεία όπου οι κάμερες δεν τα πήγαν καλά ήταν η αναγνώριση κίνησης και το έγχρωμο night vision. Για την αναγνώριση κίνησης τι να πω... ίσως σε είσοδο πολυκατοικίας να μπορεί να δουλέψει αλλά σε σύνθετο περιβάλλον (δέντρα που κουνιούνται, σκιές από τον ήλιο που μετακινείται κ.α.) απλά ένα χάος. Ακόμα και με τον περιορισμό του χώρου ελέγχου κίνησης με τα τετραγωνάκια δεν τα καταφέρνουν με τίποτα. False alerts, κίνηση και να μην παίρνουν χαμπάρι, απλά δεν μπορούν. Συνεπώς κάτι features όπως αναγνώριση ανθρώπου κτλ. κάνουν συνέχεια λάθη και είναι αναξιόπιστα. Δυστυχώς αυτό σημαίνει ότι δεν μπορείς να βασίζεσαι μόνο στα alerts κίνησης και αν θες να είσαι σίγουρος πρέπει να καταγράφεις 24/7, μέσω του cloud της εταιρείας (ευτυχώς έχει πολύ λογικές τιμές) ή με SD card (που δε δίνεται με την αγορά).
Το δεύτερο σημείο όπου δεν τα καταφέρνουν πάντα οι κάμερες είναι το έγχρωμο night vision, όπου αν υπάρχει αρκετό φως (σύνηθες στην πόλη) η κάμερα δίνει έγχρωμη εικόνα και το βράδυ. Εκεί υπήρχαν διαφορές ανάμεσα στα 3 μοντέλα που δοκίμασα καθώς η CS58 μπορούσε σταθερά να δίνει έγχρωμη εικόνα, η CS550 δυσκολευόταν πολύ, ενώ η CS69 το κατάφερνε 7 στις 10 φορές.
Ένα σοβαρό πρόβλημα που αντιμετώπισα μετά από 6 μήνες χρήσης είχε να κάνει με τη συνδεσιμότητα στο router (ένα παλιό Technicolor της Nova). Κάτι είχε γίνει και δεν μπορούσαν με τίποτα να συνδεθούν και οι 3 μαζί. Με το που κατάφερνες να βάλεις τη μία, έχανες την άλλη. Μετά από πολλές δοκιμές, διέγνωσα ότι κάτι πήγαινε στραβά και δεν μπορούσαν να πάρουν IP για κάποιο λόγο. Το πρόβλημα το έλυσα κάνοντας reset το router στις εργοστασιακές ρυθμίσεις (απλό on/off δεν το έλυνε). Από αυτό θεωρώ ότι το πρόβλημα ήταν στο router και όχι στις κάμερες αλλά το αναφέρω μήπως το συναντήσει κάποιος. Σε αυτό το θέμα, μακράν η πιο σταθερή κάμερα ήταν η CS58 που σχεδόν ποτέ δεν είχε πρόβλημα και συνδεόταν πρώτη και καλύτερη.
Τα λεφτά που έδωσα πέρυσι για την κάθε μία ήταν πέριξ των €50, οπότε στις τιμές που τις βλέπω φέτος, θεωρώ ότι αξίζουν την αγορά. Από τις 3, αν δεν υπάρχει ανάγκη για PTZ προτείνω τη CS58.
