Epic Mickey is a 3D platform adventure game starring Disney's most famous cartoon character. The game's themes include artistic style in the creative process.

Much of the exploration and action takes place in an alternate realm called Wasteland, a place inhabited by characters and ideas from lesser-known Disney animated works and ruled by Oswald the Rabbit, one of Walt Disney's earliest cartoon creations. Mickey's most important tools are paint and thinner, which he can use to change the illustrated world around him. Throughout the adventure, the game emphasizes the concept of "Playstyle Matters." There are many ways to overcome the problems the hero faces in Wasteland, but his actions have consequences and the game's story evolves based on the choices players make. What may seem like the easiest solution in the short term may not be the best in the end. Epic Mickey was developed under the supervision of esteemed game designer Warren Spector, whose Junction Point Studios was acquired by the Walt Disney Company before the game was publicly announced.
