I bought them because I had some kitchen knives that had lost their handles and pots where the handles had come off over time. Although it required quite a bit of force to "break" the stem of the rivet, the result was very good; it doesn't rust with water and holds the joint firmly. In the past, I used stainless steel screws, but I didn't like that you would touch the end of the screw on the handles; the rivet comes flush with the joint and feels nicer to the touch.
