The classic novel by King is set in an American South prison in 1935. The Green Mile is the name of the corridor located in the death row wing that leads to the room with the electric chair.
Warden Edgecomb tries to show respect to the inmates who spend their last days of life there. Everything moves very slowly until one day a different inmate arrives at the prison. John Coffey is a giant who has been sentenced to death for the murder of two little girls, and he impresses all the guards, not just with his size.
Soon, Edgecomb begins to see something different in him: John begins to demonstrate supernatural powers – he heals Paul’s bladder infection, resurrects Mr. Jingles, and cures Melinda Moores, the wife of the head of the prison, from a brain tumor.
Trivia: In 1996, the book received the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel. In 1999, the dramatic fantasy story was adapted for the big screen starring Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan, receiving 4 Oscar nominations.
