It is strong and bitter, with a very distinctive taste similar to that of green tea. The plant's caffeine content is higher than that of tea and half that of coffee, which is believed to contribute to its mild stimulating effects, free from unpleasant side effects such as tremors, pains and stomach cramps, and insomnia. Like coffee, it may require adaptation to individual tastes. The nutritional value of the plant is attributed to its rich composition of vitamins. It tones the nervous system as well as the heart.
