ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF 2022 ACCORDING TO THE NEW YORK TIMES

Florence Day makes her living writing romances on behalf of a famous elderly romance author. The only problem is that she no longer believes in love and romance. After her latest breakup, romance has died for her. Not only is her love life dead, but her career is also taking a downturn, as her new editor, who is impossibly handsome, isn’t giving her an extension to submit her new book.

Things worsen for Florence when she receives a call she wishes she had never gotten: she must return to her hometown for the funeral of her beloved father. For ten years, she has avoided this small town where she grew up but was never understood. Although she misses the warm Southern nights and her eccentric family, she doesn’t have the heart to stay. She hates that everything there remains the same, and only her father is missing.

Until the ghost of a man, impossibly handsome just like in life, appears on the doorstep of her family’s funeral home. And confused. He doesn’t know why he ended up there—with her. Romance is surely dead… but the same goes for her new editor. However, the unfinished business he left behind will make Florence reevaluate everything she knows about romances.

Florence Day makes her living writing romance novels on behalf of a famous elderly author of love stories. However, she no longer believes in love and romance. After her last breakup, romance has died for her. And it's not just her love life that's dead, but her career is also taking a downturn, as her new editor, who is unbelievably handsome, won't give her an extension to deliver the new book.

Things get worse for Florence when she receives a phone call she never wanted to receive: she has to return to her hometown for her beloved father's funeral. For ten years, she avoided this small town where she grew up but was never understood. Although she missed the warm Southern nights and her eccentric family, she can't bring herself to stay. She hates that everything there remains the same, except her father is gone.

Until the ghost of a man, unbelievably handsome as he was in life, appears on the doorstep of her family's funeral home. And confused. He doesn't know why he's there - with her. Romance is definitely dead... but so is her new editor. However, the unresolved issues he left behind will make Florence reconsider everything she knows about romance.

"Every good story has a few secrets. At least that's what I've been told. Sometimes they are secrets about love, other times family secrets or secrets about a murder. Some are so trivial that they barely feel like secrets; however, they are crucial to the person who holds them. Every person has a secret. And every secret has a story. And in my mind, every story has a happy ending. If I were the heroine in a story, I would tell you that I have three secrets. One: I hadn't washed my hair for four days. Two: My family owns a funeral home. And three: I was the one who, in recent years, wrote the works of the great author, the top-selling and highly acclaimed romantic novelist Ann Nichols. And I was extremely late for a meeting."

Review this product
  • Paper quality
  • Was it relatively easy to read?
  • I might read a book by the same author
  • I might recommend it for reading
  • Was it relatively interesting?
  • I liked the writing style in some parts
  • This is a different love story, a strong and passionate romance between a romance book editor and a ghostwriter of romances who believes that love is dead. Until she falls in love with the ghost of a man who will show her that romance is definitely not dead. A bit metaphysical, a bit alternative from the usual romances, and it made my heart tighten with a swarm of emotions but mostly joy after tears. In this book, I cried a lot, laughed a lot, it was hopeful, full of romance and dark/deadly humor! The author managed to weave a love story starting from a funeral and a macabre vibe that makes you want to devour the book in one day! In a world of cemeteries and ghosts, you get to see the love between Florence and Ben blossom sweetly, steadily, and passionately while also getting to know all the parallel relationships and people in the story. It might be the first book I've read that I found equally strong at all stages of the story and with an excellent plot twist which I hoped would be true because otherwise, I would have thrown the book at the wall if it didn't have a happy ending. I couldn't put it down for anything! Florence and Ben will always have a special place in my heart and will be, for me, one of the strongest romantic couples with incredible chemistry and love for each other. The Dead Romantics will always be one of my favorite books!
