A phone call disrupts Sarah's quiet life in Dublin. It is Leila, her inseparable childhood friend, who after twelve years of not speaking, urgently asks her to return to Bosnia so they can meet her long-missing brother together.

Supposedly, Leila knows where he is, and Sarah decides to make the journey. However, returning to her homeland forces her to rethink everything she thought she knew well: her place, her childhood friend, their shared experiences, and the reasons they took different paths.

The winner of the European Prize for Literature, Lana Bastasic (b. Zagreb, 1986), tells the complex story of the friendship between two women in the "heart of darkness" of the Balkans.
